You will be picked up about 08.00 hrs from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu for a 3 hour
(approx.) drive through
scenic countryside, heading North to Kudat, the land of the last longhouses in Sabah, passing
views of paddy fields, villages,
oil palm plantation, local stalls selling handicraft and food items. En-route, visit
Sumangkap Village, well known for its "Gong" making skill by its local artisans.
The gong is the most important Rungus musical instrument. It is played during festivities
and grand occasions such as weddings. The gongs which are sold in Kampung Sumangkap vary
in sizes - visitors can expect to find tiny souvenirs, as well as larger gongs which
can reach up to 2 metres in diameter.
Kampung Bavanggazo - Rungus Longhouse
Proceed
to the Bavanggazo Village for a Longhouse visit. The longhouse is built entirely of
local materials, and is a home to the Rungus people community, a sub-tribe of the indigenous
Kadazandusun. Observe their very own unique bead works, lifestyle and costumes. Here,
you will experience a local native Rungus style lunch.
Simpang Mengayau - the Northern Tip of Borneo
After lunch, for the highlight of the tour, you will continue your journey for about 1 hour
until you reach a hill, the Simpang Mengayau. You are now standing right at the tip of Borneo,
hence its popular name 'The Northern Tip of Borneo'. It is here that the South China Sea
lingers and meets the Sulu Seas flowing from the east. Enjoy the stunning view.
The Pulau Kalampunian lighthouse is a reminder of treacherous coastline and past shipwrecks.
On the left is the beautiful beach of Pantai Kalampunian. It is a lovely, easy stroll to the
flagpole, and the Globe. Complete your journey by walking out to the rocky outcrop which
forms the 'Tip of Borneo'.
A brief visit to Kudat town will end this tour before retracing your route back to your
hotel in the late afternoon. Arrive at your Kota Kinabalu hotel about 18.00 hrs. [includes traditional native lunch]
Note: If the tour falls on a Sunday, you will visit Kota Belud Tamu (market) and buffalo market in the morning, enroute to Kudat.
