Beaufort Train and Padas

Beaufort lies about 1 hour to the South of KK and is the terminal for the last remaining train in Sabah. The train trip plies the route from Beaufort to Tenom through the Padas Gorge beside the mighty Padas River. The trip passes by tropical rainforest, rubber estates, and villages along the river.

Note that this tour cannot be offered at present due to a change in train schedules. We are hopeful that it may be possible to run the tour again some time soon.

The Padas River is also the site of some of the best whitewater rafting to be found in Borneo. A rafting trip along the river will allow you approximately 2 hours of exhilarating adventure, shooting rapids with names such as Headhunter Padas Cyclone, Cobra Rock, Roller Coaster and Jacuzzi Pool). The rapids are classified to Grade 4.

Tenom - Tenom is the starting point for the 30 km trip to the Orchid Centre at Lagud Sebrang. The Orchid Centre is home to over 600 species of orchids, many of them native to the area, others endangered to the region. Also in the vicinity is the "Living Crop Museum" which features tropical fruit and beverage trees and other crops from all over the world.

After completing the tour to the Living Crop Museum, retrace your route to Tenom, where you will have lunch. After lunch catch the train back to Beaufort and from there by road back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
