The VillasStaying true to the resort's theme, each of Bunga Raya's 48 private villas is named after one of the many species of hibiscus flowers that can be seen around the property. Every villa is built from the ground up by tradesmen, from a variety of natural materials. The distinctive lines and aesthetics of traditional Bornean architecture are evoked and melded with the high standards of contemporary functionality and comfort expected in luxury resorts. The beauty of Bornean simplicity meets the sophistication of modern necessities, and the result is an assortment of dwellings that offer stunning views of the gleaming beachfront, the South China Sea, and the lushly vegetated landscape.
The villas range from humble iron wood timbered houses set just steps away from the beach, to tremendous three bedroom affairs which feature extended wrap around balconies and private plunge pools.
Dotting the hillside scaling up towards the centre of the island, these spacious one bedroom villas present an appealing mix of quiet privacy and either views of lush tropical jungle or the ocean. Every Superior Villa is built with the same standards, but each offers a different and unique vantage point of the many alluring sights of the resort.
The total floor area is 70 square metres.
The Deluxe Villa provide views of both the jungle and the ocean, and are ideal for small families or groups of friends owing to the extra space. A separate living room extension is equipped with a second entertainment system, making for a simple way to simulate the leisurely pleasures of home. The extension may also function as a second bedroom with the optional addition of a bed.
The total floor area is 108 square metres.
Plunge Pool Villas

A brief trip over a suspended bridge takes you to Solace Spa, the Bunga Raya Resort trademark beauty and body centre. The spa adopts the familiar Bornean style of architecture and decor which is found throughout the resort, and literally takes it to the next level. Treatment rooms and private spa pavilions are built directly into the landscape, creating an inviting terraced effect that entwines the spa into the island's jungle and massive boulders. The structure quietly mirrors the spa's own objectives: to elevate the humble act of a therapeutic treatment into an art form that gently carries you into a state of total bliss.
Solace Spa features a blend of the very finest of traditional Asian and western treatments, incorporating the intrinsic restorative powers of indigenous plants, oils and ingredients and a selection of natural formulations from the world-renowned Kerstin Florian line of products. Marine Ecology Research CentreMERC is located at the doorstep of Tunku Abul Rahman Marine Park, a marine protected area in Sabah, off the coast of Kota Kinabalu. Attached to Gayana Eco Resort, a sister property of Bunga Raya Resort & Spa, and nestled in the quiet Malohom Bay of Gaya Island, MERC’s attraction is its significant contribution in the marine conservation arena coupled with the idyllic surroundings. As a learning and educational centre, it has grown over the years into a research and rehabilitation facility.
A walk into the centre situated above the calm turquoise waves will have you immersed in the underwater world through its aquariums filled with interesting marine life. From the maternity tank where pregnant seahorses play, rescued bamboo sharks or turtles, to the touch tank where starfish, sea cucumber and other aquatic creatures rest until curious hands reach in for a gentle caress, visitors of all ages and backgrounds will emerge with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the complexities of the marine eco system.
It is the increasing threat on the marine world and the passion to save it that was the driving force behind the daily research and conservation initiatives of the centre to return back to nature what men has exploited in the past.
The work done at MERC speaks for itself. MERC's claim to fame came when it was certified by the Malaysia Book of Records as the first centre in
Malaysia to successfully produce all seven species of giant clams found in Malaysian waters.
