Ulu Temburong National Park (Bangar Lodge) - Overnight Tour

This is an introduction to Brunei's unique wilderness rainforest region, where numerous animals, birds and plant life thrive. This overnight tour permits a comfortable pace, and an opportunity to see local lifestyles. Accommodation in an air conditioned, Guest house, near Bangar town.

Take a local water taxi from Bandar, departing at 14.00 hrs, through a network of narrow channels and rivers, around the back of Brunei Bay. Pass by dense mangrove islands and watch for wildlife along the way to Bangar, Temburong.

The afternoon includes visiting a local longhouse with its mix of traditional lifestyle and modern facilities. Then head off on a 2.5 hour evening River Safari in aluminium boats to see Proboscis monkeys, crocodiles, fireflies and other wildlife along the mangrove lined river. Dinner at the guest house.

An early start next morning allows travel by local longboat upstream, on the Temburong River, with the early morning mist rising from the river and jungle canopy. Animals and birds are more active at this time of the day. Look for Hornbills, butterflies, Proboscis Monkeys, Macaques and other wildlife. See Durian and other local fruiting trees.

At Ulu Temburong National Park, explore the network of timber walkways built above the rainforest floor. Climb the 1200 steps to the base of the 60 m Canopy Walkway towers. Observe the jungle from in and above the trees. Watch the wildlife and enjoy the panoramic view. Morning tea back at the river.

River levels permitting, proceed further upstream on the Temburong River. Take a short or long walk along a jungle creek to a waterfall, see observation tree houses. Return downstream in the longboat or ride on Rapid Riders (optional extra charge Bn$15 per adult) to the National Park centre.

Enjoy a buffet lunch or local specialities beside the river. Swim, relax, or walk along other pathways.

Travel downstream by longboat or Rapid Rider to Batang Duri, then vehicle transfer to Bangar restaurant for afternoon tea, and a clean up. Board the water taxi to return to Bandar Seri Begawan, where you will arrive at approximately 16.15 hrs

(life jackets, helmets and other safety equipment are provided. This programme involves early starts, walks on long and sometimes slippery pathways, bumpy boat rides, getting wet, and clambering about. It is, however, well within the capabilities of normally healthy people)
