Ulu Temburong National Park (Longhouse) Overnight Tour

This tour is an introduction to Brunei's unique wilderness rainforest region where numerous animals, birds and plant life thrive. The Ulu Temburong National Park is protected and preserved for the benefit of Borneo's wildlife, scientific research, and low impact visitors. This overnight tour permits a comfortable pace, and an opportunity to experience local lifestyles in addition to the National Park. Accommodation is in a longhouse with traditional lifestyles and modern services. Own air-conditioned room within a family area.

The trip departs Bandar at 14.30 hrs, arriving at Bangar at approximately 15.15 hrs. You will arrive back in Bandar Seri Begawan at around 16.15 hrs the following day.

Travel by local water taxi from Bandar through a network of rivers and channels around the back of Brunei Bay. Pass by dense mangrove islands and look for wildlife, including crocodiles, along the way Bandar, Temburong.

Settle into the longhouse and meet the community.

Around 16.30 hrs, you will head off on an evening rainforest walk with your guide to look for wildlife. There is also the optional swim, as well as other activities.

Enjoy dinner – local style – with a rural family in their home. There is also the option of a night walk (weather permitting) to search for nocturnal animals; then return to the Longhouse.

Day 2

An early start next morning allows travel by local longboat upstream, on the Temburong River, while the early morning mist rising from the river and jungle canopy. Animals and birds are more active at this time of the day. Look for Hornbills, butterflies, Gibbons, Macaques and other wildlife. See Durian and other local fruiting trees (fruit will not be seen at all times of the year).

At the Ulu Temburong National Park, explore along the network of timber boardwalks built above the rainforest floor. Climb 1200 steps to the base of the 60m Canopy Walkway towers. Observe the jungle from in and above the trees. Watch for wildlife, and enjoy the panoramic view.

River levels and time permitting, proceed further upstream on the Temburong River. Take a short (or long) walk along a jungle creek to a waterfall. Return downstream in the longboat or riding the optional Rapid Riders (heavy duty inflatable mattresses - optional extra charge Bn$15).

Enjoy a lunch of local specialties beside the river. Swim, relax, shoot the rapids on the Rapid Riders, or walk along other jungle pathways.

Travel downstream by longboat (or the optional Rapid Riders – or 6 person inflatable raft - Bn$35 per person - minimum 3 people required) to Batang Duri, then vehicle transfer to Bangar town for afternoon tea with optional shopping and market visit; if time permits.

Return in covered local water taxi to Bandar Seri Begawan. You will arrive back in Bangar Seri Begawan around 16.15 hrs

(life jackets, helmets and other safety equipment are provided. This programme involves early starts, walks on long and sometimes slippery pathways, bumpy boat rides, getting wet, and clambering about. It is, however, well within the capabilities of normally healthy people)

The Rafting Option for the return trip is a fun experience with grade 1 or 2 rapids to add some thrills while paddling downstream from the National Park. The Temburong River is especially suited to beginners and families. Drift with the current, listen to the sounds of the jungle and watch for birds and other wildlife. Staff will brief you on the techniques and safety procedures. If you take the rafting option, you will not arrive back in Bandar Seri Begawan until approximately 17.30 hrs

This tour may also be done in a similar format to the Bangar Guest House tour, and include an evening river tour on Day 1, instead of the rainforest walk. Please contact us for details. The price is slightly higher for this option.
