Mangrove River Safari - Sunset

 In the centre of Bandar Seri  Begawan are the water villages of Kampong Ayer. Just beyond the water village is a mangrove environment that still supports a diversity of wildlife; another unique feature of Brunei. It is also the nursery for local marine life

The tour departs at 1630 hrs Jalan Residency. First cruise past the water village. See the variety of housing styles and the busy water taxi activity as people return home from work and school. You will also see the Sultan's palace from the river. Then motor to the mangrove forests upstream.

Motor or paddle quietly along the narrow mangrove and fern lined channels, stopping to listen and look for the bird and animal life. Your driver/guide will highlight the mangrove ecology and the plant and animal life which this tangle of mangroves, vines, palms and trees supports.

Most days we see Proboscis Monkeys, Macaques, birds and marine life. Some days you may also see crocodiles, monitor lizards, and other larger animals. At dusk, look for the arrival of flocks of Egrets as they return to roost for the night.

Return through the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan to view the town, mosques and water village as the lights come on. You will pass the Sultan's Palace at dusk for what are probably the best photos available. Continue downstream while your guide highlights the features and activities along the Brunei River which contributed to the nation's history and heritage.

Enjoy dinner beside the river at Royal Brunei Yacht Club. Bring your own wine, beer etc. if you would like something alcoholic with your meal.

Depart for your hotel by vehicle at around 2030 hrs
