BRUNEI RIVER TOUR - HALF DAY (4 Hours)

Brunei’s rivers and bays play an important role in its commercial, recreation and social life. This boat- based tour will introduce you to features and lifestyles along the Brunei River, the role it has played in the nation’s history, plus current commercial, residential and recreation developments.

Brunei has a long maritime history. The Sultans of Brunei once reigned over all Borneo, plus parts the Philippines and Indonesia. The method of transport and communication was always boats. Traditional settlements established beside bays and waterways. These waterways provided convenient transport through a jungle environment, and a supply of food.

The tour starts from one of Brunei’s main water recreation areas and passes by Muara harbour, with it’s commercial port, oil production support jetty, and Naval base.

Travel through the city on the River

Then begin the journey upstream. Stop to visit a fish firm, see the riverside golf course and housing, see local fishermen at work, and learn about historical developments and Brunei culture.

Stop to enjoy a buffet lunch at the Royal Brunei Yacht Club, beside the river.

Then rejoin the boat to travel upstream, past the recently constructed new water villages, through the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan. View the previous Sultan’s palace them move upstream to view the present Palace.

Return past protected mangroves to the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan to see the traditional water village, Kampong Ayer, which is still home to over 30,000 people. Walk along the elevated pathways to see the houses and lifestyle.

Finish the tour in the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan (Lunch and some drinks included)
