BRUNEI TOUR ITINERARIES

Bandar Seri Begawan Day Trip

Tour Code: BWN DAY1 and DAY2

Duration - Full Day

This is a popular tour which allows you to spend the day getting to know highlights of the Brunei's capital city. It is ideal for those who would like to fly down from Kota Kinabalu for the day, or alternatively for those who have arrived in Brunei on a cruise ship and would like to spend the day taking in the sights of the city.

If coming from Kota Kinabalu, depart KK airport at 08.50 hrs and fly to Bandar Seri Begawan, on a Royal Brunei flight, arriving at 09.30 hrs.

Note that flight schedules are varied from time to time - as at early 2017, there are return flights from KK to Bandar Seri Begawan on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Check with us at the time of booking to be sure that your choice of day will work.

You will be met at the airport (or cruise terminal) on arrival, and proceed to the Open Market - "Tamu Kianggeh". Some of Brunei's cheapest food stalls can be found here, serving meals such as Nasi Katok (rice, a piece of fried or curried chicken, and sambal), and Nasi Lemak (rice cooked in coconut milk and served with chicken, egg and cucumber slices). You will find the market chaotic and messy - something quite unlike the rest of Brunei.

Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

From the market, you will proceed to the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque at around 10.30 hrs, followed by a visit to the The Royal Regalia Exhibition Hall, housing the royal ceremonial costumes, royal chariot, and gold and silver ceremonial armoury which gives an insight into the wealth of this oil rich and ancient sultanate. You will spend around an hour here with your guide.

Lunch is included at a local restaurant - generally the Millenium Restaurant, or if not available, the Emperor’s Court or Tarindak Restaurant, followed by a visit to the Malay Technology Museum at around 13.00 hrs. Contrary to its somewhat misleading name, the focus of the museum is not on modern technology, but instead on the traditional lifestyles and practices of Brunei's ethnic groups, with displays on life in a Malay water village - stilt architecture, boat making, fishing techniques, handicrafts, etc., and a Murut (Lun Bawang) longhouse.

Istana Nural Iman Palace (The Palace of Light)

Around 14.00 hrs, stop for a visit to the impressive Jame'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, an Islamic architectural gem which has twenty-nine 24K golden-topped domes. From here, you will also have a view of the magnificent Istana Nural Iman palace (The Palace of Light) and is the largest residential palace in the world with 1788 rooms. The Palace is the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei and his family, and stands on the banks of the Brunei River, several kilometres to the South of Brunei’s capital.

Move on to the Yayasan Shopping Complex. This complex is one of the oldest malls in Brunei, - just a small shopping complex, and perhaps a little like a department store, but its claim to fame is its fabulous location. It is very close to the across the Sultan Omar Ali Saffudien Mosque, beside the stadium and the area for water taxis.

You will be given afternoon tea with local cakes at one of the houses in the water village.

Transfer to the airport for the return flight with Royal Brunei, departing at 19.15 hrs, and arriving in KK at 19.55 hrs. Note that on Sundays, the flight to Kota Kinabalu currently returns somewhat earlier, at 18.25 hrs.

You will be met on arrival at the airport in Kota Kinabalu, and transferred to your hotel.
