1 Take your flight to Kuala Lumpur. From Australia, this will
take you up to about 8 hours, from Europe a bit longer and from North America, up to about 16
hours or so. From Kuala Lumpur, take your Malaysia Airlines flight to Kuching in magical, mystical
Borneo. Flying in from most places in Australia, you will arrive in Kuching Sarawak in
the late evening. From Europe and North America, flights are generally scheduled so that you have
a good chance of arriving in the morning.
You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel - depending on arrival time, have the remainder of the day at leisure
or get some rest.

Day 2
Morning
tour of the sights of Kuching City -
purported to be the cleanest city in Malaysia. Afternoon at your leisure
to look for local handicrafts and artefacts in the Main Bazaar on the
waterfront.

3 Travel from Kuching, about an hour’s journey by coach/mini
bus, to Anah Rais, located in the heart of the Padawan District (about 40 km
from Kuching). Anah Rais is the largest Bidayuh longhouse which exists in
Sarawak. Explore this peaceful Bidayuh village and learn about the culture of
the Land Dayaks who were once headhunters. Visit the baruk (headhouse) where
skulls can be seen.

Day 4
Spend the day visiting Sarawak's oldest National Park at Bako.
It is home to a variety of wildlife including Macaque and Proboscis monkeys.
In the late afternoon transfer to the oil town of Miri
on the South China Sea coast of Sarawak, or depending on flight schedules, which
are changed from time to time remain in Kuching for the night. The actual
itinerary will be confirmed at the time of booking.

5 Transfer
to airport for flight to Mulu Caves. You will be
met on arrival and transferred to Royal Mulu Resort.
Gunung Mulu, as it is known locally, is the gem of Sarawak's national
parks and contains the largest limestone cave system in the world.
Mulu's system of caves is truly spectacular. The world's largest natural
chamber (Sarawak Chamber), the world's largest cave passage (Deer Cave)
and the longest cave in South-East Asia (Clearwater Cave) are all found
at Mulu.
Tour the Deer and Lang Caves on your first afternoon and evening in
Mulu National Park.

Day 6
Tour the Wind and Clearwater Caves and enjoy a picnic lunch and perhaps a swim in
the mountain stream. The remainder of the afternoon can be spent at your
leisure. There is plenty to see and do above ground, without having to
venture into the caves.

The park contains 15 different types of forest
- including mixed dipterocarp, heath, peat swamp, moss forest and montane
vegetation - and thousands of species of ferns, fungi, mosses and flowering
plants, including 170 species of wild orchid and 10 species of pitcher
plant. Mulu's wildlife is as rich as its flora, and is inhabited by an
impressive variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects
and other invertebrates. Spend the night at Royal Mulu Resort

7 Morning
transfer to Kota Kinabalu. After checking
into your hotel, get a bite to eat, then enjoy an afternoon tour of the
thriving city Kota Kinabalu which is now the capital of Sabah. Note that flights may either be direct
to KK, or via Miri, depending on schedules.

Day 8 A
full day
trip to Kinabalu National Park and
Poring Hot Springs. Enjoy the vista of
the jungle covered mountains and valleys as you proceed up to the base
of South-East Asia's highest mountain and on to the Springs where you will
be able to take a "canopy walk" through the canopy of a rainforest.
(the canopy walk is generally closed for a few weeks in
April for maintenance - check at time of booking) If time
permits, you may be able to
enjoy a soak in one of the hot baths built by the Japanese around the Sulphur
Pools at Poring. At Kinabalu National
Park, enjoy a guided walk through the botanical gardens at the base of
Mt Kinabalu. Return to your hotel in KK for the night.

Day 9 Travel overland over the Croker Range to
Tambunan where you will be able to visit the Rafflesia Centre. There is a
very good chance that you will be able to see the world's largest flower in
bloom. Lunch at Keningau, before continuing on to Tenom for the
night. Overnight at the Tenom Perkasa Hotel.
Day
10 After
breakfast, you will be driven to Lagud Sebrang to visit the famous Living Crop
Museum
at Lagud Sebrang, with its tropical gardens containing fruit, beverage plants
(eg coffee, cocoa etc) and spices. . Return to Tenom, and board Borneo's last remaining
commercial train line to Beaufort on the coast via .the scenic Padas
Gorge past tropical lowland rainforest, rubber plantations and native
villages. From Beaufort, you will drive on to Kota Kinabalu and your hotel, for the night.

Day 11
Morning
transfer to Sandakan, where you will be picked up at the airport and driven
to the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre in time
for the morning feed. Return to Sandakan for lunch, then travel by boat from
Sandakan to Sukau and Sukau Rainforest
Lodge, where you will overnight. In the late afternoon,
you will be taken on a jungle river tour along a tributary of the Kinabatangan
River to see the Proboscis Monkeys readying themselves for the night. If
you are lucky, you may even see a herd of elephant, together with a diverse range of other animals and birds.

Day 12
A morning departure to return to Sandakan by boat. Arrive in Sandakan in time
for lunch, followed by an afternoon Sandakan city tour, including the water
village, The Agnes Keith House and The Australian War Memorial located in the
World War II POW Camp. Sandakan was the capital city of North Borneo until the Second
World War. Sandakan was also the starting point for the Australian Death
March to Ranau, near Mt Kinabalu, towards the end of the War, in which
6 men out of a total 2400 survived. (Refer to Australians
in Borneo During WW II for further information) Overnight in Sandakan.
Day
13 Morning
at your leisure to sit around the pool or to hunt down those last minute
souvenirs. In the afternoon, board a flight to Kuala Lumpur and then on to your
final destination (home?). Some destinations may require an extra night in
Kota Kinabalu with departure early the following morning - this will be confirmed
at time of booking
Day
14 Arrive back at your destination (for overnight flights from
Kuala Lumpur).
